Squash
Riverford Specification
Health & Safety
Squash is harvested using either knives or secateurs, both of which are kept sharp for ease and efficiency of harvesting. Due to this, care must be taken when using them.
Squash is a very heavy vegetable, and crates can get really heavy. It is essential that good lifting and moving practices are used as outlined here: https://www.hse.gov.uk/msd/manual-handling/good-handling-technique.htm
Have breaks for a drink and stretch as you need, and your body will thank you for doing a longer stretch at the end of a squash pick too.
Baddaford is a steep farm that can get very muddy and slippery when wet. Appropriate footwear should be worn to help avoid slips, falls, or turned ankles.
